FAQs

I know that choosing the right support for your pregnancy, birth, and early days can feel like a big decision. To help you, I’ve gathered answers to some of the most common questions families ask me about hypnobirthing, doula care, and how I work across South Somerset. If you have a question that isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, I’d be more than happy to chat.

What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing is a gentle approach to birth that combines relaxation techniques, breathing, and positive mindset tools. It helps you feel calm, confident, and in control during pregnancy and labour.

Do I need to have a particular type of birth to benefit from hypnobirthing?

Not at all. Hypnobirthing is for everyone, whether you’re planning a home birth, hospital birth, caesarean birth, or are still exploring your options. The techniques can be used in any situation to help reduce stress and increase confidence.

What does a Doula do?

A doula provides emotional, practical, and continuous support throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Unlike midwives, doulas don’t provide medical care, but we are there solely for you and your family, offering reassurance, advocacy, and a calm presence.

How is a Doula different from a Midwife?

A midwife is a medical professional responsible for your clinical care and the safe delivery of your baby. A doula provides non-medical support, emotional reassurance, comfort measures, and practical help; working alongside your midwife or doctor to ensure you feel heard, supported, and cared for.

Where do you offer your services?

I am based in Barrington, Ilminster, and support families across South Somerset, including Ilminster, Langport, Curry Rivel, Taunton, Chard, Yeovil and surrounding villages. Please get in touch to check I cover your area.

Can my partner still be involved if I have a Doula?

Absolutely! A doula doesn’t replace your partner, we enhance their role. I support both of you, giving your partner confidence and helping them know how best to support you, so you can work together as a team.

When should I start hypnobirthing classes?

Many families start around 20–30 weeks of pregnancy, but it’s never too early or too late to learn. The tools can be helpful at any stage, even right up until birth. I usually plan to see clients for three consecutive weeks, between 28-32 weeks and then a top-up session around the 37 week mark, if you feel you need a gentle reminder and confidence boost.

How do I book your services?

You can contact me directly via WhatsApp or email to arrange a free, friendly discovery call. This gives us a chance to get to know each other and see how I can best support you.

Do you offer postnatal support?

Yes, as part of my doula work I offer gentle postnatal support. This may include emotional reassurance, practical help, signposting to resources, and creating space for you to rest and bond with your baby.

What if I’m nervous about birth?

That’s completely natural. Part of my role is to listen, reassure, and give you the tools you need to feel calmer and more confident. Together we’ll work through your fears and build trust in your body and birth choices.
